Summarizing! Instructor Burciaga's students practice summarizing text by reading a passage and identifying the key points! Encourage your student to read and tell you a summary of what was read.
Second Semester Perfect Attendance Award! Be sure to be present EVERY school day. No Absences of any kind to be entered. No Unexcused or Excused Absences. There will be a lottery drawing for awards. All grade levels are eligible. Each Six Weeks students will have an opportunity to earn a ticket for the 2025 Spring Perfect Attendance Award. Award will only be based on Attendance. Top Dog Attendance Award! Roy Johnson STEM Academy earned the attendance award for the 3rd Six Weeks for secondary schools. We want to thank our parents and students for remembering to turn in doctor notes the same day or day after the visit. We also want to thank our parents for remembering to write parent notes for absences. Please remember to turn in the 3 parent notes per semester. Reminder - Second Semester Perfect Attendance Award - for zero absences.
National Handwriting Day is January 23rd! We encourage our bulldog families to: start a journal, and write a poem/letter/note to a friend or family member.
🏀Basketball! Support our B-ball Teams! Gym Sporting Event Expectations. Junior High Students: No Loitering; Must sit upstairs. All students below the 8th grade and below are required to be accompanied by a paying adult in order to attend home games. Parents are responsible for their own children. Students 8th grade and below not accompanied by a paying adult will not be allowed into home contests. No Exception! All parents and visitors must sit on the appropriate side.🏀
The transportation department would like to advise that we have a temporary change to Route 26. This route will combine between Route 13 and 14. Please check with your student for updated information.
Character Traits! Burciaga's students identified character traits for either Odysseus or Polyphemus. Students were instructed to write words that describe their chosen character alongside with textual evidence to support their traits.
STEM Robots! Etchison's students are at it again. Using long-exposure photography concepts, students programmed their Sphero robots to create fantastic scenes using the LED matrix on the robots. Students really get to explore many things at Roy Johnson STEM Academy!
Sam Cooke! Instructor Lee's and Instructor Shed's B Day 7th grade classes were able to visit the Bass Hall on January 20th to watch Sam Cooke perform. Sam Cooke is referred to as "The King of Soul." Our students represent Roy Johnson STEM Academy well.
8th Grade Science! Instructor Bural's and Instructor Patterson's classes are working on W.I.N.D. stations. Students are looking at the "W" -Water Cycle and Wind Map, "I" - Interactive Convection Currents, "N" - Notice and Sorting, "D" - Describing with CER (Claims Evidence and Reasoning).
Text Evidence! Instructor Burciaga's students search for text evidence using annotation strategies in order to support their answers. Students are working hard to master this skill. Keep up the great work!
