Roy Johnson STEM Academy

My name is Leonardo Zavala and I am honored to serve as Assistant Principal at Roy Johnson STEM Academy for the 2025-2026 school year.

I am entering my 17th year in public education, a journey that began in 2009 as a 3rd grade teacher at Mesquite ISD. I later taught 5th grade Social Studies, Science, and Reading at Pine Tree ISD, followed by several years at Fort Worth ISD, where I taught Social Studies across grades 6, 7, 8, and 12, including AP Macroeconomics and AP U.S. Government and Politics.

In 2016, I earned a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. I began my career in school administration in 2023 as the Middle School Assistant Principal at Lexington ISD. Most recently, during the 2024–2025 school year, I transitioned into the same role at Roy Johnson STEM Academy

As Assistant Principal, my goal is to contribute to a school culture that values innovation, equity, and community engagement. I believe in the power of education to transform lives and empower students to become lifelong learners and leaders.
